To my Republican viewer Can you name a business that do make $250,000.oo and we can can it a "Small Business"?

Alphonso Brake: My brother in law had a small business in Colorado. He had 4 employees ( not including my sister who got no pay). He averaged about 2 million a year. of which Uncle Sam got half. So in MY book Obama is full of it. If the IRS already took 50% of what they made and Obama is going to tax those making over $250.000 more. How much do you think he would be paying. When he retired 4 people lost their jobs. the community lost that tax base. And the community also lost the money that those four and my brother in law spent in it. If he had to pay more he would have retired much sooner. and the tax base would have lost much sooner....Show more

Efren Clankscales: What are called 'small businesses' are not as small as you may think., many make millions and still qualify as 'small." According to the Small Business Administration:http://www.sba.gov/services/contractingopportuniti...How does the SBA define a small business? A. A small business is an concern that is organized for profit, with a place of business in the United States, and which operates primarily within the United States or makes a significant contribution to the U.S. economy through payment of taxes or use of American products, materials or labor. Further, the concern cannot be dominant in its field, on a national basis. Finally, the concern must meet the numerical small business size standard for its industry. SBA has established a size standard for most industries in the U.S. economy. The most common size standards are as follow:500 employees for most manufacturing and mining industries100 employees for all wholesale trade industri! es$7.0 million for most retail and service industries$33.5 mil! lion for most general & heavy construction industries$14.0 million for all special trade contractors$0.75 million for most agricultural industriesAbout one-fourth of industries have a size standard that is different from these levels. They vary from $0.75 million to $33.5 million for size standards based on average annual revenues and from 100 to 1500 employees for size standards based on number of employees. If you want to look up the size standards for very specific 'small business' like apparel shops and so on, you can check the NAICS and see, there are way too many to list....Show more

Willie Tun: $250,000 isn't that much for a small business's revenue. It's a little more than $20,000 per month. Commercial space can run between $3000 for a small unit in an industrial park to much, much more than that for more desirable retail locations. The cost of your goods sold is next (varies), followed by the wages of your staff -- maybe two or three people at $2000 per mon! th each if you don't pay them very well.Phone, internet, utilities, equipment leases, upgrades, and incidentals come next. Whatever's left, the owner keeps. It's a common fact of small business that the staff make more than the owner, at least for a couple of years. ...Show more
