Purchasing a car from ebay?

Ricardo Rozelle: My friend's sister lost about 25,000 dollars due to a Ebay car scam. So be careful.Only deal with those people you can meet in person. Use your common sense. Get everything in writing. Never wire money. And if things seem too good to be true, then chances are they're not true.As for your specific case - be wary of 'luxury' vehicles at low costs. These cars may have a low cost-of-entry, but have skyrocketing costs-of-ownership. Especially for a finely tuned performance/luxury car, maintenance costs are very high even for a new mint condition car. Factor in the fact that you're likely getting a salvaged car, expect to spend many times the amount of purchase to get the car into good condition....Show more

Erin Arron: Many cars, lots newer than that one start out at $1.Doesn't mean it will sell for that.Ebay, does NOT sell cars, they sell ebay listings.Ive bought & sold hundreds of cars in my life. I would NEVER consider buying a car I hadn't driven unl! ess the sale price was very low.I have seen cars at real auctions start at $2000 and sell for $9000.Just because it started at $2000 doesn't mean ANYBODY could buy it for that....Show more

Terrell Voltz: contact the owner, and also check if the same car is listed on other car sites as some of these sites provide free inspections im fair sure. cant go wrong talking to the vehicle owner though.

Arlen Decorte: I feel as though there will always be some risk associated with buying things off of ebay; although you can always check the seller's ratings from previous transactions. However, I would just suggest purchasing from more reputable sources to eliminate that risk of fraud all together. If you're looking for a good and cheap used car, I would suggest checking out Carsala.
